Scaup, Long-tailed Duck and Goldeneye at Barton Broad, followed by a Glaucous Gull at Wells

Linda and I fancied a bit of a walk, so we decided to investigate Barton Broad from the viewing platform near Neatishead. This proved to be very productive, with a female Long-tailed Duck, three Scaup and a couple of dozen Goldeneye. Marsh Harrier was new for the year, as was Bullfinch. A chance chat with some old acquaintances (and the need to add another couple of miles to top up our five miles a day regime) sent us across country to Wells. After lunch, we walked out to the outer harbour, adding Grey Plover, Greenshank and Red Kite to the list. We eventually saw the immature Glaucous Gull (with a little help from those already 'on' the bird) Although it was somewhat distant, it was, as always, hyperdistinctive. Great to chat with a delightful couple from Darlington, as well as a number of more familiar faces!
