Hornet Clearwing Moths and much more besides at Hemblington Church

Today was the usual 'bio-blitz' at All Saints: just four of us present: Linda, Joyce, Sue and myself. A bittersweet occasion, because Joyce is moving soon and we'll lose our wildflower expert...

Lots of butterflies today, but very few birds: I imagine the time (either side of midday) and the heat had something to do with it! I took a few pheromones along and was delighted to attract half a dozen Hornet Clearwings: today they posed beautifully for the camera! Also interesting were lots of Norfolk Hawkers, a single Brown Hawker, a Common Darter and a large hoverfly: Volucella pellucens (Thanks James!)
