Strumpshaw Fen: some interesting insects!

A doctor's appointment meant I couldn't get to the Fen until 10: no sign of Brian, so I walked the circuit alone. The first thing I realised was that Willow Emeralds have now colonised the entire reserve: they were everywhere! What a change from a few years back when a crowd of us stopped looking at a Sandhill Crane when someone had found a Willow Emerald nearby!

Lots of other interesting insects, including a large wasp of some sort, several Brown and Migrant Hawkers and a leaf-cutter bee sp. It was really interesting to watch it remove a section of leaf and fly off with it! Birds were a bit thin on the ground, but I enjoyed seeing a Kingfisher from Tower Hide.
