Today David Savory and his wonderful BVCG met Sue, Linda and me at Hemblington churchyard for a few hours of raking, pruning and tidying. Despite the chill wind and constant drizzle we got through masses of pre-winter jobs and carried out surveys on the poor old Poplar trees: I gave a short talk on how Poplars can be damaged by Hornet Clearwings and how to check them. I also carried out the monthly bird survey: best birds were, I suppose, a Marsh Harrier right over the Church and four Siskins - lots of Redwings too! Sue and Gwendoline provided cakes and coffee to round off an enjoyable and productive session.
