My least favourite garden job (which I've had to carry out three times in a month, for some reason!) is cleaning the pond filtration system. This unglamorous process was made
somewhat more bearable by the number of raptors displaying overhead: in the end, I had to wipe my hands, grab a camera and take a few photos.
From Peter's observations (he's seen them mating!) we now know that the white Buzzard is a female. She was being courted by two different males today: finally one was driven off northwards. A pair of Sparrowhawks and a pair of Kestrels were also enjoying the brief pre-hail midday sunshine.
