The Perseids: not quite a storm!

I spent a couple of hours around midnight watching out for - and trying to photograph - meteors. Although tonight is the 'official' maximum of the Perseid meteor shower, I took advantage of a clear (if somewhat hazy) sky in case a few individuals came to the party a day early!

The rewards were perhaps not as good as I'd hoped, but I did see ten or twelve fairly bright meteors, catching one or two on the camera. Satellites are a problem these days: their transits leave streaks on long exposures and there are so many that virtually every shot has one or two! Jupiter was amazingly bright in the southern sky...
