Third time lucky! I've had three goes at adding this species to my year list, dipping at Holkham and Lackford. When the pager announced last night that a drake was just up the road, I resolved to get dressed early and go for a look at first light. A careful scrutiny of the vast flock of Wigeon on the main pool (where RBA was reporting the bird) revealed very few Teal and certainly not the one I was looking for. I was just about to leave when Local birder Dave Edwards arrived, with the news that the teal had been - and probably still was - on the Mill Pool, not where RBA claimed.
A trudge eastwards and a careful search seemed to be fruitless, until Dave found the bird asleep under a distant bank. Other birds of note were 100+ Black-tailed Godwits, several Stonechats and a flock of Fieldfares.
