Oldest friend Paul drives over from Derbyshire twice a year to see (and video) our beautiful Norfolk 'Leps'. He arrived nice and early this morning and we were walking in Foxley Woods by 8.00am. The first ride we explored delivered dozens of Silver-washed Fritillaries, as well as plenty of the more expected species: Linda and I glimpsed a Purple Emperor circling the top of a tall oak before disappearing. Biggest delight was coming across a patch of wild flowers that held at least five Valezina Silver-washeds: glorious!
Next stop was Warham Camp, where Chalkhill Blues were everywhere! In among them were Holly Blues, Wall Browns and Painted Ladies. After coffee at Cley (but no Curlew Sand!) we finished the day at Holt Country Park: lots more Silver-washed Frits, but just a single White Admiral. Astonishingly, between Edgefield and Felthorpe a Purple Emperor flew across just in front of the car: Paul and I both saw it well!
