A walk around the Fen (twice!) with Brian & Adrian revealed that many of the early Summer species have disappeared, to be replaced by new arrivals.
Southern Hawkers and the first Migrant Hawkers have replaced Hairies and Norfolks, while Brown Hawkers are everywhere! Ruddy and Common Darters are abundant, and every path has Black-tailed Skimmers sun bathing every few metres! (Still the odd Scarce Chaser along Lackford Run, though!)
As I was chatting to Dr George, a Purple Hairstreak briefly landed on the brambles next to us - only my second at Strumpshaw!
Still a few Egrets and Ruff on the mud in front of Tower Hide: more surprising was a young Marsh Harrier eating a dead fish on the 'Point'.
