The Day of the Triffids!

Five years ago I bought a couple of fascinating additions to our somewhat bizarre and eclectic garden: two Pitcher Plants. As long as these are kept saturated with clean rain water (ie: no nutrients as you'd find in tap water) they seem to flourish on the patio: they have even withstood temperatures down to minus ten Celsius. They are fascinating plants, subsisting entirely on a diet of insects - these can be as large as a wasp - and require a nutrient-depleted substrate to grow in. They are just beginning to bloom at the moment and the flowers are also quite strange, resembling the 'probes' of the Martians in the original Gene Barry 'War of the Worlds' film!
