Since Linda and I had to be in Norwich, we cut across country to Spixworth on the way. Dave Holman and three or four others had seen the Hoopoe at close quarters, but it had flown off, so we resumed our trip into the city.
Three hours later we returned home via Spixworth and this time we were lucky: the Hoopoe was feeding distantly but right out in the open. It performed very well for a small group of fence-perching birders (albeit behind several layers of wire!)
An unexpected and most welcome year tick!
