Since Brian had to be home before lunch, he, Norman and I met early and spent a couple of hours walking the circuit at Hickling. (I must mention that, on the way, we passed a male Goshawk sat close to the road just before Burlingham Church: astonishing!)
As we'd expected, apart from the 'regular' Hooded Crow, there were hardly any passerines at Hickling, but it was an enjoyable walk, despite the threat of snow. The only other birders we came across were a pleasant couple from Worcester: as we chatted we could hear quite a largish flock of Cranes bugling away behind Stubb Mill. We walked around to the watchpoint, but the only wildlife of note were half a dozen Red Deer.
Lots of Marsh Harriers - probably around a dozen - and a Red Kite flew over Brendon's Marsh, spooking all the Lapwings. We saw two - possibly three - Great White Egrets, a few Snipe and a pair of Goldeneye, before heading home ahead of the snow clouds.
