My turn to drive, so I was able to set the agenda for the 'Summer Wine Crew'! First stop was Stiffkey, where a walk out to the Whirligig and back produced Redwings, Little Egrets and lots of Brent Geese, but little else.
A visit to the Coastguards at Cley gave us three Spoonbills heading west and a Red-throated Diver close in, followed by coffee at the Reserve Centre. As we were drinking it, the pager bleeped to inform us that the Red-breasted Goose was visible at the end of Garden Drove, so we headed west again. After a short walk we joined a small gallery that had pinned the goose down, albeit very distantly. Fortunately a couple of Red Kites disturbed the flock of Brents it was with: it flew near enough for a few photos.
A walk from the Village Car Park to the lake at Holkham gave us close views of hundreds of Fallow Deer and a dozen or so Red Kites, before we visited Natural Surroundings for tea and cakes (but no Waxwings!)
