Taking a chance on the weather, Norman, Brian and I decided on a morning on the North Coast, starting at Cley Coastguards. A brief seawatch produced a single distant Little Auk heading east and four Eider travelling in the opposite direction.
Bishop's Hide provided delightful views of a pair of Kingfishers: the female proved to be delightfully photogenic. Lots of Black-tailed Godwits plus a few of each of the expected waders. Two visits to Cross Street, Salthouse failed to turn up the Waxwing flock: it had apparently been spooked by a guy parking his car under the tree they were roosting in.
After coffee a drive to Stiffkey failed yet again to deliver the Glossy Ibis: we headed back to Salthouse (still no Waxwings!) for a walk out to Gramborough Hill. A delightful male Stonechat and a female-type Eider were the highlights. Help required! Is this attractive juvenile gull (feeding on a dead seal) anything out of the ordinary?
A stop at Filby on the way home gave us just a flock of impossible-to-photograph Siskins, while a Buzzard on a roadside telegraph pole at Pedham was atypically obliging.
