A long walk in the sunshine right around the Fen & the lanes to and from Buckenham provided some welcome wildlife moments!
Swallowtails were everywhere today: in the Dr's garden, along Lackford Run and even in the Reception Centre herb garden! Other good insects included Banded Demoiselle and at least six Norfolk Hawkers.
While I was photographing a particularly obliging example along the 'back road', I glanced across to see a very dark Red Kite being mobbed by crows. It never came closer than half a mile, but it was interesting to note how dark its plumage seemed, compared to the norm. As it flew across Buckenham Wood it 'pulled up' a nicely marked (and apparently wing-tagged) Common Buzzard. Other goodies included Hobby, Grass Snake (a whopping four-foot adult!) and a Grasshopper Warbler that flitted across the Sandy Path right in front of me!
Big surprise: a second pair of Turtle Doves arrived this afternoon and fed happily at the bird table!
