The promise of a dry (if not sunny) morning sent me to Strumpshaw Fen, early enough to avoid the inevitable Easter holiday crowds.
The first interesting bird I saw was a distant Osprey heading west, followed by a not-quite-so-distant pale Harrier with a white rump. Could it have been a male Hen Harrier?
Having met Brian, we 'did the circuit' together, adding Barn Owl, Little Egret, lots of Marsh Harriers and - always nice to see - Blackcap to the day-list.
Couple of odds and ends: this is part of a large flock that flew over quite high: Redwings? And is this a Bee-fly?
