Norman and Brian had agreed to take a young friend, Brendon, for a day at Minsmere and asked if I'd like to join them: naturally I said yes!
First stop was a very misty Island Mere, where a mating pair of Great Crested Grebes were fascinating to watch, as was a Little Grebe fishing at close range. At least four Bitterns were booming, but none came out to play while we were there.
The Tundra Bean Geese were visible very distantly in the mist for ages before suddenly appearing right in front of the hide! My best-ever views of the species.
Last throw of the dice was the Heath, where Dartford Warblers eventually put on a reasonable show, despite dozens of dog walkers...
