Up at dawn this morning to carry out the monthly bird survey at Hemblington Church. At this time of day there tends not to be the variety found on the regular bio-blitzes, but there are usually a few surprises.
Today I recorded 66 birds of 11 species: I suppose the most interesting was a Kestrel hunting around the tower. I also saw a few rabbits, Grey Squirrels and a Hedgehog!
The Friends of Hemblington Church have won a Community Biodiversity Award: most gratifying, and a well-deserved acknowledgement of the hard work put in by the core team and the various groups (BVCG, BaDCoG etc ) that help with the ongoing work to make the church and its surroundings so attractive to wildlife - and human visitors!
