Strumpshaw Fen

It's been a while since I met Brian at the Fen, what with business trips and illness... Today started bright and sunny (if a little cool!) and we enjoyed a good walk, listening to Chiffchaffs and Blackcaps. Very few people on the reserve, but it was good to see regular midweeker Kevin and swap yarns.

Several pairs of Marsh Harriers were displaying and collecting nest material: a dapper male Sparrowhawk was seen off by one territorial male, as were crows and a couple of Buzzards. A single Kingfisher flashed past us over the sluice, perching briefly on a tree on the far riverbank.
