A drive through the drizzle to Cley was the prelude to a somewhat frustrating day out: we did see some interesting birds, but 'dipped' on three potential year-ticks. First stop was a brief seawatch at the beach carpark: nothing to report, so we headed westwards to Friary Hills, Blakeney. Despite a good grill of the hedges where a Barred Warbler had been seen earlier, all we managed were some common warblers, a Song Thrush and a flock of Long-tails.
Back to Cley, parking at the end of the East Bank for a trudge along the woodland path at Walsey Hills. No Dusky or Yellow-browed Warbler, just a few Chiffchaffs and a Willow Warbler. (To be fair, I would have spent a lot longer at both sites if I'd been alone, but I never like to impose on the other two...)
Tea and scones before a walk out to the Centre Hides, where fourteen or so Cattle Egrets posed nicely, as did a dapper Little Stint. (Pleasant to meet and chat with new 'vol' Mike as well as the indefatigable Elizabeth Dack!) Three Whooper Swans grazed with Pinkfeet behind the VC.
Last stop was Kelling, where a long walk up to the guns added Stonechat and another Cattle Egret: we trotted back to the car just ahead of the rain.
