Lots going on in the night sky!

The 'leading star' of the constellation Leo is a beautiful blue-white star called Regulus. This is one of the brightest stars in the night sky and, being close to the ecliptic (the plane of the solar system) is occasionally occulted by the Moon and planets. Last night the last quarter Moon passed very close to Regulus, creating a beautiful pairing to which my camera doesn't really do justice...

Tonight at 5.18 the International Space Station will pass directly overhead: if it's clear it will be very bright and eminently photographable!

Lastly, as I was watching the dawn sky this morning, a Tawny Owl patrolled silently along our hedge-line: marvellous to see!
