Porpoises, a Glaucous Gull and a terrific flock of Snow Buntings...

Brian was keen to look for the Desert Wheatear and the Arctic Redpoll at Eccles: I wasn't sanguine about the chances of finding either, but Linda and I were keen for a day out, so we were parked at Cart Gap by 9.00am. A long walk through the caravan site produced only Pink-footed Geese, Guinea Fowl and a pair of Stonechats, but the walk back along the beach provided distant views of a small pod of Harbour (?) Porpoises - at least four.

We carried on north west around the coast, stopping at Walcott and then Mundesley, where a friendly birder had told us there had been a Glaucous Gull present. It took a bit of finding, having drifted west and a couple of hundred metres offshore on the tide: still: always good to see...

After tea and teacakes, we carried on to Cley, parking at the 'Coastguards'. A walk towards the North Screen revealed a fabulous flock of 80+ Snow Buntings. These were often joined by a charm of Goldfinches, the whole flock swirling around us and landing within a few metres from where we stood.
