OK: I admit it - I really enjoy 'Bake Off'. I enjoyed it even more tonight, because, as well as the entertaining contest, there were some excellent birding moments too. Best of these was a fabulous calling Lesser Spotted Woodpecker, seen for several seconds in close up: but there was a beautiful Red Kite too.
This series is filmed at Down Hall Hotel in Essex, not far from the M11: in the past the venue was Welford Park in Berkshire, where we often enjoyed Ring-necked Parakeets, Red Kites and Grey Wagtails. All in all, a great hour's entertainment for a baking birdwatcher!
