What defines the end of Summer to you? Look at these photos: is it the prolific crop of berries on the cotoneaster? The fallen leaves on the lawn? The sycamore tree laden with 'helicopters'? To me, the end of Summer is marked by the bringing in of the patio table umbrella. We've enjoyed some lovely evenings around the table: Sue & Peter are regular visitors, of course, but - once lockdown was lifted - other friends such as Jason, Garth and Carol joined us for tea or the odd glass of fizzy. So, to me, the simple act of putting away the umbrella signals the end of Summer and the downhill run to the end of the year....
