With an afternoon free, I took a run along the East Coast, by way of Filby. The choppy conditions and distance made identification difficult, but I managed to pick out Scaup, Goldeneye and Ferruginous Duck: nice to meet Twitter follower Sue Gale!
Carrying on to Winterton, a quick scan revealed the recently-present raft of Velvet Scoters: perhaps a dozen or so. In flight their characteristic wing flashes were very obvious.
Moving northward to Sea Palling, a half-hour 'grill' of the reefs and lagoons eventually turned up the reported Long-tailed Duck: at times very close inshore.
Last stop was a somewhat crowded St Benets Abbey: Barn Owl, Bewick's Swan and Short-eared Owl all obliged before it grew too gloomy.
