Bressingham and Lopham Fen: Barn Owls and Snowdrops

A day out in South Norfolk for Sue, Linda, Peter and me was intended primarily as a visit to the Bressingham Snowdrop gardens: photos of those will go up here tomorrow!

In the event there were some decent birds to enjoy at Blooms: Sparrowhawk, Kestrel, Long-tailed Tit and Tawny Owl, plus a new bird for the year - Coal Tit! I also chatted briefly with bird illustrator Martin Gibbons: well worth checking his website or occasional exhibitions at Cley.

After tea and cakes, Peter suggested a visit to Redgrave & Lopham Fen, which was a ten minute drive westwards. The late afternoon sunshine was glorious, and we all thoroughly enjoyed the open vistas across the golden reed beds. As we walked round we encountered some terrific birds: Linnet, Reed Bunting and - best of all - a pair of Barn Owls that quartered the meadows...
