I'd be interested to know why Rare Bird Alert (on their pager and online map) refer to the various White-tailed Eagles that are currently available around the UK as escaped. They are, in fact, released - originally on the Isle of Wight, but recently encountered all over the south. (A pair has settled down in the Pulborough Brooks region and might well think about nesting at some point, while a much-appreciated young female has spent the winter touring Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex)
Just a small point: but, to me, there's a world of difference between a wire-hopping Baikal Teal, Ruddy Shelduck - or even Kookaburra - and birds that have been purposely released as part of a reintroduction scheme.
