Brian, Norman and I enjoyed a long morning in the Brecks, starting at Santon Downham for the annual Lesser Spotted Woodpecker pilgrimage! We didn't see one, but we came close: we heard one drumming and trotted along the river bank, arriving a minute too late. A couple of photographers showed us what we'd missed! We did see Grey Wagtail, Siskin and Marsh Tit.
Next stop was Linford: forget it! Absolutely rammed with kids and dog walkers, so we carried on to the usual Goshawk spot, immediately finding a bird perched at the top of a distant tree: it was still there an hour later when we left for Lakenheath Fen. A short walk added Great and Little Egrets, 60+ Whooper Swans and bugling Cranes to the day list: Tundra Bean was new for the year, if somewhat distant! A pair of delightful Muntjac kept us company as we walked the riverbank to Joist Fen...
