Red-breasted Goose at Cley

Despite the horrendous forecast, Brian, Norman and I headed north to Cley to see if we could catch up with the juvenile RBG that has been lurking between Cley and Holt over Christmas. We parked at the Coastguards and scanned the flock of a hundred or so Dark-bellied Brents: no sign. A brief sea watch was pretty unproductive, so we returned to the car, where a newly-arrived birder had found the goose and gave us very welcome directions. It was surprisingly hard to pick out, even if you knew where it was!

Half an hour in Bishop's Hide was followed by a trudge along the East Bank, adding a few new species to the year list. Brian and Norman both 'got' Cetti's and Bearded Tit, but I didn't!

The rain set in for the day as we were enjoying our coffee at the visitors' centre, so we headed home, stopping at Ludham Airfield for distant views of both species of wild Swan.
