Prehistoric carboot find!

It is truly amazing what you can pick up at a carboot sale: I honestly believe that you could eventually find absolutely anything you needed / wanted if you searched regularly. (As an example, I bought a pair of Carlboro active foldback speakers that we use at Synergy gigs for just £30 and an Orange 20W practice amp for a fiver!)

Today I bought two large and beautifully-preserved fossil belemnites for a pound the pair: they are the greyish ones in the photo. (The other cost quite a bit more from a rock and mineral show.)

Belemnites were squid-like cephalopods that became extinct towards the end of the Cretaceous Period: they had an internal 'pen' like a modern squid or cuttlefish which was hard enough to become fossilised.
