Interesting that most of the RSPB reserves in my area don't fill their feeders this time of year 'because of rats'. I can see their point to an extent, but from our experience - given the scarcity of insects this summer - the birds in our garden rely heavily on the food we offer. The various suet feeders attract customers of numerous species all day...
