Black-winged Kite at Hickling

After yesterday's late night gig at the Prince Regent, I spent an hour unloading all the gear from the car and arranging it in the 'music room'. Just when I was thinking of relaxing, a casual check of RBA sent me scurrying north west to Hickling to try and catch up with the just-reported Black-winged Kite. Some power walking took me to the western viewpoint over Brendan's Marsh, where I joined a crowd of well-known birders, who pointed out the kite. Even through a scope, it wasn't much more than a blob in the heat haze, so I decided to try the mound at the eastern end. From here the bird was much closer and it was nice to enjoy it with old acquaintances Lynne Warner and Keith Bilverstone: only five people here, which amazed me, because the Sun was placed better and the bird was closer (But still distant!)

Other birds seen included Great White Egret, Crane and two Bitterns, as well the long-staying hybrid Hooded Crow.
