Brian and I couldn't put it off any longer! For us an eighty minute drive is unusual - the longest we've travelled for a single bird for a year or two!
After a long walk up and down the river between the road and railway bridges at Cattawade (and a few 'is it or isn't it?' false alarms) we walked back to the car to grab our lunches. We stopped to scan North Marsh (Brian had brought his 'scope for me to use!) when a couple of really smashing Surrey birders alerted us to the target bird just twenty or thirty yards in front of us! We spent the next half an hour watching it through the telescope and taking photos, before eating our lunches and heading northeast to Alton Water (Of which: more later!)
