Jollity and romance at opposite sides of the sky!

Tonight the two brightest objects in the night sky (not including the Moon, of course!) are on opposite sides of the celestial hemisphere: just as Venus sets in the West, Jupiter rises in the East. Venus is photographable as a visible crescent even with my birding camera set-up!

As I was waiting for Jupiter to appear, I saw a beautiful Iridium satellite flare: really bright in the indigo northern sky.
