Bittern at Strumpshaw Fen

It's been a while since I've actually seen a Bittern at the Fen, but this male has been booming for several weeks in the reeds opposite Tower Hide: today he finally put in an appearance! Distant, of course, but pleasing to see.

It was pretty chilly today, so absolutely no butterflies at all: in fact the only interesting insects were this Scarce Chaser and a group of twenty or so Longhorn Moths.

Back home, it's fascinating to watch Linda's bees drinking at the bird bath: apparently a productive hive will bring in a gallon of water a day!!!
