Peregrines, Spoonbills and an unexpected wader...

Linda and I had another day on the North Coast (We had a sheep to buy in Holt! Don't ask!) So we made an early start in Cromer for a look at the Peregrines: one posed quite nicely on the north wall of the church tower. Then it was on to Kelling Quags: a local birder said there was nothing on the pools except a Green Sandpiper, but the only wader we saw was tubby and grey, with greenish-yellow legs. On first views I thought it looked a bit like a Willet, but commonsense dictates that it was a Knot! On the way back to the car we saw lots of both Honey and Ivy bees enjoying the warm sunshine, while the hedgerows held Blackcaps, Whitethroats and Chiffchaffs.

Last stop before Holt was Stiffkey Fen, where around 50 Spoonbills (in two groups) were dozing on the islands in front of the house. Linda and I were delighted to discover that the stiles have been replaced by kissing gates: much easier to negotiate with cameras etc! A couple of Green Sandpipers, some more Chiffchaffs and a pair of Bullfinches were good to see.
