Two new crickets and another encounter with a Shrike

My blues music compadre Garth Coupland had offered to help me add a couple more crickets to my Norfolk list. All carefully-distanced and masked, we explored rank grass habitat at Hemblington, Stokesby and Waxham as well as damp heathland at Buxton. In the end we found examples of both Roesel's and Bog Bush Crickets, as well as quite a few Long-winged Coneheads. (Strangely, both the churchyards we searched held large subterranean wasps nests - Garth nearly knelt on one!) Stokesby churchyard held good numbers of Common & Ruddy Darters: one of these looked good for Red-veined Darter, apart from its eye colour.

The orthopteran search at Waxham also provided close views of several Common Lizards and allowed Garth to enjoy one of the Red-backed Shrikes at close range. Other birds seen here included Spotted Flycatcher and Wheatear.
