An early start, with Brian driving in his brand new car! We arrived at Cley before eight and walked to Bishop's Hide, where the only unusual bird was a Great White Egret, close enough for photos despite the heat haze! A solitary Beardrd Tit was to the right of the hide: while we were watching it a flock of 24+ Cattle Egrets descended onto the island with the GWE! They mooched around for an hour, occasionally being flushed by a Marsh Harrier: at one point another big flock of thirty or more appeared over the West Bank, circled around but headed back towards Blakeney. I picked up a distant juvenile Little Gull, which gave reasonable views as it flew eastwards: later, during our walk out along the East Bank, we saw it, or another, on the Serpentine. At the back, on Pope's, a small group of Spoonbills lounged in the sunshine...
It was good to see the drifts of chicory on the bank - and to chat with the delightful Sue & Steve Gantlett.
Last stop was Kelling Water Meadows, which were devoid of any interest apart from a solitary Little Egret.
