It's easy to suffer from 'tunnel vision' when searching for a particular bird or insect: you tend not to notice the wild flowers you're walking past (and sometimes through!) At Warham Camp, though, that's not usually the case, because the chalk banks and enclosed meadow are such a feast of colour and scent. The predominant species among the various grasses are Ragwort, Tansy, Field Scabious, Devil's Bit Scabious and Rest Harrow with large clumps of Marjoram and Thyme. There were lots of 'gone over' orchid spikes when we visited on Wednesday: I think these were Pyramidial Orchids, but I found at least one Helliborine. Best of the lot, IMHO, were the spectacular Autumn Gentians: positively Alpine!
