Here are a few photos from Linda and my 'on spec' trip to Sculthorpe today. Despite the forecast, the weather was calm and bright and we met lots of terrific birders of all levels of experience.
The nyjer seed feeders in the 'triangle' were periodically visited by roving flocks of Redpolls that included Lesser, Mealy and, very occasionally, a Coues's Arctic. We were quite fortunate, seeing this dapper little vagrant on two occasions - once before lunch, once after - but others had a longer wait. One or two of the Mealies were particularly stunning, with Linnet-like pink breasts.
