A day in the Brecks: some nice birds but few photos!

It's the time of year when Linda and I often pop down to the northern Brecks to try and catch a pre-migration Stone Curlew gathering. Peter and Sue were keen for a run out, so they joined us for a relaxed drive down to one of the usual spots. I'd been told that 50 or 60 birds were still lingering around the pig farms two days ago, but an hour or so's search failed to turn any up. We did come across a couple of Kingfishers, a Grey Wagtail, lots of Buzzards and winter thrushes, but no stonies.

We moved north to the traditional Goshawk site: this is often good for a few Stone Curlews - but not today. We did, however, see a couple of Goshawks, as well as a murmuration of Starlings and a Woodlark. (Presumably this might be one of the increasing number that over-winter in East Anglia)

After lunch at the no-frills but entirely adequate 'Twenty Churchwardens', we moved on to Swaffham. Following an hour or so browsing in the antique shops and coffee and cake in the absolutely terrific 'Tutankhamun's Emporium', we headed home just as the clouds opened!
