Hemblington Church Bird Survey: slim pickings!

Not unexpectedly, this year's November wildlife survey was pretty much unpolluted by birdlife! The absence of any thrushes whatsoever was a little surprising, but, to be fair, it was a dreary, cold day...

Is the church a plague church? often work by it on the circuit from south Walsham and with nothing nearby I wondered if it might be? Roger

Yes indeed, Roger! While many rural churches became isolated during the Black Death, Hembliungton was depopulated by the Great Plague in the 17th Century. In the summer, you can see 'parch marks' in the fields nearby.

Thank you for your reply. Will have to keep a look out. Interesting it was a later plague.
