When the terminator (the division between lit and unlit portions of the Moon) lies down the centre or thereabouts, the Sun throws into relief some spectacular crater fields and mountain ranges. Last night the craters Plato (top) Copernicus (middle) and Clavius (bottom) were particularly prominent, as were the semi-circular Sinus Iridium, the Alps and the Apennines.
