With the scarcity of insects this Spring / Summer, there have been lots of gloomy posts on the usual forums (fora?) about the implications for successful breeding of our small garden birds. The solution - at a local level at least- would seem to be suet! Throughout the day, our various breeders are bringing their fledglings to the numerous suet blocks we have hanging around the garden: Robins, Blue & Great Tits and Starlings are the most frequent visitors, but we've also had Blackbirds, Jays and, on one occasion, a Blackcap.
