Moorland birds in an urban setting!

We've had a fabulous few days down in Devon, despite all the rarities having vanished before we arrived! Today we decided to head out on to Dartmoor to look for the classic moorland birds. On the way, we stopped at the park in Sidmouth: within minutes our journey out to Widdecombe was rendered slightly pointless, since we found Kingfisher, Dipper and Grey Wagtail within ten minutes!

Nevertheless, we made the trip, enjoying some merchandising at 'The House of Marbles' in Bovey Tracey.

Later, at Bicton Country Park, we enjoyed a delightful family lunch and also a pleasant lakeside walk that added Emperor and Southern Hawker to the day list: overhead Buzzards wheeled and mewed in the cloudless blue skiy.

So: many thanks to B-in-Law Barry and his delightful partner Judy for much fun and frolics, and to Becky at St Mary's B&B, Tipton: the best home-from-home we've stayed at in Devon!
