It's official: we ARE all doomed....

The TV and online media are, quite rightly, doing much to highlight the dreadful destruction of the world's forests: rain forest, taiga and temperate forests are being felled at a completely unsustainable rate. The industrialists and politicians who could do something to stop this just won't: too much cash at stake: too many fat brown envelopes and back handers.

Norwich used to be fringed by wide belts of woodland: to the east, huge swathes have already been felled to build vast estates of four-bedroom houses jammed together for maximum profit: half a dozen more are planned, including an 'ecotown' at Rackheath. Who are they for? Not the local young couples or down-sizing pensioners mentioned on the bill-boards and websites, that's for sure! Many houses will be bought as second homes or investment properties: that's the lesson of the past. All this against the council's own figure of over 4,000 empty, habitable houses in the county - probably more: that figure has been quoted for Kings Lynn and W. Norfolk alone!

Norfolk is right out on a logistical limb: already people are waiting years for NHS dentist appointments: schools and surgeries are overcrowded and main (huh!) road routes are permanently jammed - even without the hordes of 'stay-cationers'.

I find the whole thing hideously hypocritical: here we are - the ordinary, hard-working people of the country - trying hard to change our way of life to invest in a better future, while local and national politicians seem ever-ready to get their faces in the trough...
