Persistence finally paid off! For the third night in a row I set up a camera with GPS guidance in the back garden in the hope of photographing some bright meteors. Initially somewhat hazy, the sky cleared beautifully around midnight: the Milky Way arced overhead and the Andromeda Galaxy (M31) was plainly visible with the naked eye. During the following hour and a half I counted over a meteor per minute! Among these were several of the super-bright, colourful exploding bolides I'd been hoping to see.
