North Coast odyssey: distant seabirds and a Snow Bunting

My turn to drive, so 'The Summer Wine Crew' made an early start at Salthouse, before moving westwards in stages to Titchwell. Despite an unpromising weather forecast the rain held off all day, but it felt distinctly chilly at times because of a strong southerly breeze.

A good search at Salthouse Iron Road was unproductive, so we moved east to Gramborough Hill, where a lone Snow Bunting fed along the cliffs. A female Merlin flew inland being mobbed by crows and a few dapper Stonechats occupied posts and fences.

The Centre Hides at Cley produced reasonable views of a Little Stint but not much else so, after coffee and scones, we moved along to North Point Pools at Wells. Again: just the usual large skeins of Pinkfeet and Brents. A gateway at Holklham gave us views across the grazing Marshes, where half a dozen Red Kites and three Cattle Egrets could be seen in the distance.

Last stop was Titchwell, where - despite the tide being miles out - we managed to pick up a Red-breasted Merganser and a Slavonian Grebe among the Red-throated Divers and Great Cresteds. Someone caused a minor twitch by reporting a Green-winged Teal, but despite it apparently being quite close (on the Spot Sand Bund) and lots of people searching, it wasn't refound by the time we left.
