A Smew and other 'goodies' close to home!

Given the freezing conditions, Brian and I kept it local, visiting Ormesby Broad, Hickling and St Benets, enjoying some terrific birding before the rain set in. Virtually the whole of Ormesby Broad was frozen, but we did catch a glimpse of the redhead Smew as it circled the only clear patch: a Fox padded gently across the ice - the first of two we encountered.

Hickling added Bearded Tit to the day list, as well as the usual Marsh Harriers, while a short trip to St Benets was really rewarding, with Barn and Short-eared Owl, a herd of Whooper Swans, several groups of Crane and a second Red Fox.
