On the night of New Year's Day, the Moon will pass in front of the gas giant planet Uranus (the seventh planet out from the Sun) Although Uranus is visible to the naked eye in really dark skies - it's around magnitude 5.6 at the moment - you'll need a telescope to have any chance of seeing the occultation because of the brightness of the Moon. Watch this space to see if I get lucky!
